July 21, 1928 - September 9, 2006. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jack MacDonald on September 9th, 2006. Jack was the devoted husband of Kathy Koster, beloved father of Sandy MacDonald (Tim Neal) and Peggy Gasparetto(David), cherished brother of Jean Kozak (Steve) and Jimmie MacDonald (Madeline), step-father to Trisha Johnson (Steve) and Brenda Koster, Papa to DJ and Joey Lappalainen, Michael and Kim Hawdon, Danny Neal, Maggie Gasparetto and Hannah and Matthew Johnson and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jack grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, attended King George Elementary School and Sault Collegiate and spent summers at Camp Pawating and at his grandfather's farm in Barbeau, Michigan. Throughout his adult life, he was always interested in business, boating and travel. He operated Humpty Dumpty Wholesale and Jack's Cab, managed the Four Winds and the Airways Motor Hotel and eventually ran Bargain Bob's at various locations in and out of the community. Later, he relocated to Windsor and at age 70, he and his wife Kathy backpacked around Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. He was a wonderful storyteller with a quick and clever sense of humour and a deep appreciation of the natural world. To the end of his life, Jack remained as active as possible and always remembered his family and friends in Sault Ste.Marie with fondness and affection. At Jack's request, there will be no formal service or visitation. However, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
