It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kathryn Amelia Lewis (nee Hagan) peacefully, surrounded by family at the SAH October 22, 2019 at the age of 83.  Kathryn leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Maitland, children Brent (Vicki), Judith (late John Kovala) and Robin (Gary Palmer).  She was cherished ‘Grandma’ to Alana, Christopher and Nadia Lewis (Michael Fowlis), Stephanie and Andrew Kovala and Rebecca and Laura Palmer.  Kathryn was the daughter of the late Clifford and Phoebe Hagan and sister to the late Ronald Hagan (Lorna).  She was Aunt Kathryn to many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by life-long friend and Thursday afternoon coffee date, Joan Wright.
Kathryn enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up on a small farm in Little Rapids just outside Thessalon Ontario.  In 1955, she met older brother Ronnie’s new friend, Maitland Lewis, an agriculture summer student from Montreal.  Kathryn and Maitland married in 1957 and started their adventure in various towns along the North Shore.  They moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1962 where their business ventures took root and grew to include various automobile dealerships. A true family business, Kathryn was involved for many years as were all her children and grandchildren at some point in time.  Kathryn loved to bake, read and enjoyed all forms of entertainment but she was happiest when surrounded by family.  Kathryn was particularly passionate about organizing and planning celebrations that brought the family together.  Nothing gave her greater joy than following the activities and being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Over the last few years Kathryn faced many health challenges with courage, strength and dignity.  The family would like to sincerely thank all of those involved for the excellent medical care she received.  In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Bragaglia for her many years of compassionate care as well as Dr. Shaffi, Dr. Barry and the entire team at the SAH Renal Dialysis Unit for their wonderful care – the dialysis unit was like a second family for her and she truly enjoyed getting to know everyone.  Finally, we would like to thank Dr. Fera, Dr. Jadavji, Dr. Schamp and the entire nursing staff of 3C for their exceptional and sensitive care at the end of her journey.  Thank you.
Family and friends may visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6-9 pm and on Saturday from 10-11:30 am.  Funeral Service to be Celebrated at Central United Church on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 12 pm.  Rev. Laurie Milito officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to the SAH Renal Dialysis unit  or Central United Church would be appreciated.
