1945-2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jean-Louis at the Algoma Residential Community hospice on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at the age of 76. He was surrounded by the love of his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Lois, and his children, Laurianne Lavoie (Stéphane), Daniel (Janet), Michelle Weir (the late Harvey Weir) (Travis), André (Mandy) and Joseph (Yvonne).  Proud pépère of Cindy (Graham), Mitchell, Alex, Jeremy, Nicholas (Claire), Jean-Luc, Emily (Steven), Roch, Ashton, the late Owen, Ryan, Kayla, Jaxon, Julie-Anne and great-grand children Savannah and Teagan.

Jean-Louis was the son of the late Odilon and Marguerite Lemieux and dear brother of Raymond (Fabiola), the late father Alfred, father André, Gilles (Gertrude), François (Shirley), Cécile Iucu (Sorin), Lorraine, Denis and Michelle Fioravanti (Walter).  Son-in-law to the late John and Dorothy Ferris and brother-in-law to Barbara Wilkins, Judy Burns (David), Irene, Michael (Ruth), Charlie (the late Joan), Catherine, Mary-Ellen Voth (Carl) and David.  Jean-Louis will also be fondly remembered by countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Pierre and Roseline Dubreuil, who loved to listen to him sing: `Oh When The Saints`.

Jean-Louis, who raised his family in an atmosphere of unconditional love and faith, would do anything for his children and grandchildren.  A devoted Catholic from a long established Northern Ontario French-Canadian family, Jean-Louis was capable of fixing anything and would always lend a helping hand to family and friends when needed. Jean-Louis worked at Algoma Steel for over 30 years as a foreman in the electrical repair shop.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council A32, 4th degree, a past Chairman of the French Language section of the Catholic School Board for ten years and an ardent curler.  Many children passed through the doors of Lois`s daycare and were loved by Joe.  He was a fine musician and enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and laughing at family gatherings.  You could always count on Joe for a good joke.

We will cherish all our memories of Jean-Louis and the love he shared with each of us.  He is now reunited with all of his family and friends who have passed before him.  He definitely welcomed with open arms.  As a man of great faith, Jean-Louis now sits at the table with our Lord and Saviour.  He is now without pain or suffering.  His memory will live forever.

Family and friends are invited to O’Sullivan Funeral Home (corner of Cathcart & St. James St) on Thursday July 22, 2021, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. (Masks and social distancing are required). A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday July 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel (Masks and social distancing are required). Father Paul Conway officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

A heartfelt thank you to Bayshore nurses, the team of doctors who provided his care and treatment over the past year.  A special thanks to the staff and volunteers at ARCH who filled Jean-Louis and his family with much support, comfort, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARCH or Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
