John ‘Jack’ Alexander Laird, a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away peacefully at the Sydenham Campus on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the age of 87. Much loved husband of Doreen (Hopgood) for 64 years. Son of the late Russel and Annie (Forsythe) Laird. Dearly loved father of Diana Monnette of Sault Ste Marie, ON, Debbie Blais (late Serge) of Chatham and David (Sabine) of British Columbia. Dear grandfather of Dorinda Diotte (Craig) of Sault Ste Marie, Kerrie Monnette, Dayna Porco (Frank) of Bowmanville and Garrett Acosta of Bothwell, ON. Special great grandpa of Adaira & Vaughn Diotte of Sault Ste Marie. Brother of Margaret Gilliam (Fred) and the late Carlton (Pearl), Jean Hicklin (Ken) and Irene Coulson. Loved by sister-in-law Eileen Carpenter (Roy) of England, brother-in-law Joe Coulson and by many cousins, nieces and friends. Jack served in Britain & Italy during WWII as a dispatch rider, signalman & Lance Corporal with the Royal Cdn Corp of Signals. Lifetime member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 Wallaceburg and also Branch 25 in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie. Jack was a former employee of Algoma Steel. Friends may call at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street (at Elgin) in Wallaceburg from 7-9 PM on Thursday. The funeral service will be celebrated at the funeral home by Rev. Grace Coleman-Anthony on Friday, July 16 at 1:30 PM. The interment will follow at McDonald Cemetery.
