On Friday, September 18, 2020, Karl’s guardian angel officially retired as he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family at the age of 93. He is reunited with his soul mate of 66 years, Erna. Loving father and mentor of Trudy (Bronco). Very special Opa of Meeka (Mike) and his furry pal Shelby. Dear son of the late Karl and late Ludmilla Laher. Brother of the late Sepp and Hedwig. Uncle of Eva, Fritz and Karl of Austria.

Karl was truly one of a kind. He led an amazing life, starting out in Roggenreith, Austria on July 3, 1927. We will never forget the many animated stories he shared of his lifelong adventures. He took great enjoyment traveling, playing tennis, cross country skiing and his long career in accounting. Karl loved to spend time with his family, always providing the comedic relief or a new investment tip. A proud self-described “bull sh*ter,” Karl never shied away from the opportunity to share one of his many quirky jokes or stories. “Have I ever told you about my retirement party…” was a frequent conversation starter at every family gathering. In his last year Karl resiliently fought dementia with a simile, finding humour and happiness in the simple things.

A private Funeral Service will take place at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.  Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated. A special thank you to the nurses and PSW’s from Bayshore, CBI and Care Partners for providing Karl with great care and compassion over the past several months.

Although we smile and make no fuss,
No one misses him more than us.
And when old times we often recall,
It’s then we miss you most of all.

Until we meet again, Auf Wiedersehen!
