Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the SAH- Plummer Site, after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, February 16, 2008 in his 62nd year. Loving and caring husband of 38 years to Chris (Hamel). Devoted Dad to Dan (Laurie) and Jamie-Lynn O'Neill (Michael). Special Papa to his five angels - Kyle, Kloe and Koen Kurylo and Avery and Candon O'Neill. Youngest son of the late Minnie Chyz (late John and the late John Kurylo). Much loved brother of Bill Kurylo (Doreen) of St. Davids, Ontario and Eileen Shchepanik (Frank) of Thunder Bay. Special son-in-law to Eunice Hamel (late Ellwood) and fun loving brother-in-law to Sue Hamel-Laford (Bing), Linda Greco (Robert), Mary Bougie, John Hamel (Laurie), Ellwood Hamel, Sandra Frechette (Fred), Lisa Davyes (Steve). Much respected uncle to several nieces and nephews. Don will be sorely missed by his many close friends throughout the hockey and golf circles and many former colleagues who he remained in close contact with. He was a true and dedicated friend and mentor to many. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Parish (211 Pentagon Blvd.) on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend George LaPierre C.S.B. officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations made to SAH - Cancer Care Fund, A.R.C.H. - Algoma Residential Community Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. J. Knox, (PMH), Dr. David Walde, Dr. Silvana Spadafora and Dr. Sharon Buehner and the dedicated staff at the Cancer Clinic, Chemo Treatment Unit and 4th Floor Daycare and Palliative Care for the care and concern shown to Don and his family during this difficult time.
