It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mike on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the age of 73. Beloved husband and best friend of Ellie for 48 years. Cherished father of Maureen Baldwin (friend Todd) and Carrie Kuntz (Mattias Dunne). Proud grandfather of Evan and Clare Baldwin and Charlotte and Ryan Dunne. Brother of Judy Barclay (Walt), J.D. Kuntz (Sirkka) and the late Tom. Brother-in-law of Carolyn Harrington (Brian) and Bill Hogg (Juli). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Rouyn- Noranda, Quebec to Harry and Maurie Kuntz, moving to Kitchener, Ontario where he would spend most of his childhood. Mike attended medical school at Western University where he would find the love of his life in his classmate Ellie. After an internship in Vancouver, BC, Mike and Ellie moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1971 where, together they ran their medical practise for over 40 years. Purchasing property on Fourth Line East, they built a home where they raised their two beautiful daughters. Mike and his girls shared a love of horses and riding and would spend hours out in the barn together. He had a love for adventure and all things fast, trail blazing by snow machine or ATV, Mike tried it all. But above all else he had a passion for flying. He obtained his pilot’s license in the 1980’s and spent many days every year exploring, a few of his favourites were Duck Island, Hudson Bay and the Arctic. His love for flying and helping others would later bring Mike to be involved with the Sault Search and Rescue Team as well as the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Center. Mike was a man of so many talents, from bridge building to strumming a tune on his guitar, his passion for life was contagious. He has touched so many lives in his 73 years and he will truly be missed by many.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the Sault Search & Rescue or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date, details to be announced.
