KOURULA, Janina (nee Raciborski)

Passed peacefully on January 2, 2024, with family by her side at ARCH at the age of 72.

Survived by her husband Wayne Kourula and children Craig Kourula (Lauri), Raija Biasucci (Dino) and Cherie Taylor (Craig). Grandmother of Dawson Kourula, Elisha Biasucci, Reid Taylor, and Adrianna Taylor.

Daughter of the late Mary Raciborski and the late Walter Raciborski. Sister to the late Henry Raciborski (Verna), Theresa Ferguson (Dan), Alex Raciborski and In-law of the late Waino Kourula and the late Fern Kourula. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Mom was a long-time resident of Manitouwadge, Ontario, where she loved to fish and camp. For the majority of her life, she was a well-loved waitress, where residents saw her friendly face serving up a great meal and a cold beer at The Hotel, Caddy’s and later The Plaza.

She was an avid sports fan. She loved watching soccer, curling, baseball, and hockey. She was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mom always had a zest for life where she was always singing and dancing, cooking, and cleaning. She always had to find something to do to keep herself busy. She always had a positive attitude and always lived day by day. She loved all her grandchildren and was a positive influence in their life.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life in Sault Ste. Marie will be held in the summer.

Thank you to Dr. Rassouli, Dr. Shehata, Dr. Kuntz, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Apostle, Dr. Booth and all cancer and radiation staff who took excellent care of mom. Thank you to all Bayshore staff and a big thank you to Cheryl Shultz and staff at ARCH for their exceptional care of our mom.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ARCH (payable online https://www.archhospice.ca/ or by cheque).
