KORREY, James S. 'Jim'

Passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 90. Jim will be deeply missed by his daughter Kathryn Fisher (Robb), and his grandchildren Benn and Sarah. 

Born in 1930 to the late Sam and Regina Korrey, brother Eugene (late Mary-Lou), Sisters: Roma, Joan (Bob) and the late Janet (Tom). Prince Edward Island was home to the Korrey and Shama clans.  Jim enjoyed returning home to the island.

Jim was a graduate from Dalhousie University, and then moved to work with Ford in Oakville, and a vinyl manufacturer in Cambridge.  A blind date in southern Ontario, led to Jim’s marriage of 42 years to Gwendolyn Sheppard. 

Jim and Gwen moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1965 to begin his 24 years as an instructor at Sault College. He taught Master Sciences and Natural Resources, beginning in the Chemical Engineering Technician program.  In 1974-75, Jim was granted a sabbatical to attend the Centre for Science Teachers at McMaster University.  Jim became an important part of the eventual establishment of the Pulp and Paper Engineering Technology program that emerged in 1980.

Retirement was spent at Pine Island and winters in the warmer climate of Largo, Florida, where he met his second wife Kay. They continued to visit Florida until moving permanently to Hamilton.

Jim returned back to Sault Ste. Marie three years ago and resided at Maple View Nursing Home – McCarroll Lake.  A special thank you to the staff for their heartfelt compassion and caring.  
A private family service will be held at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522). Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Friends are invited to view the service online starting at 10 am on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 and can be viewed anytime up to 90 days.
