KERSEY, Eva Rossiland (Ovens)

Posted

Peacefully at the Van Daele Manor on March 9, 2011 at the age of 93. Beloved wife and forever sweetheart of the late John (Jack) Kersey. Mother of Mary Campbell (Peter), Christina Stricker (Gerry) of Thunder Bay, Jean Armstrong (Richard) of Portage la Prairie, MB, John (Cilla) of San Diego, CA, James (Christina) and the late Mikell. Grandmother of 10. Great grandmother of 6. Sister of Edith Green (Norman) of Ottawa, Eileen Hartman (late Charles) and late William Ovens. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. While her family was first in her heart as wife and mother, she was also, in her “spare” time a nurse (at the PMPH), gardener, naturalist, rower of boats, real estate agent, hiker, star-gazer, preserver of bugs at the “Bug Lab”, student, teacher, traveler and keen observer of life. She loved the natural world, from the rocks she studied and collected to the birds of the air and all in between – mushrooms, flowers (wild and tame), trees, everything. She studied them and encouraged her kids to learn all about them (including Latin names as well as English). A long time past member of and volunteer with the Sault Naturalists, Voyageur Trail Association and the Algoma Art Gallery and frequenter of all the Sault Theatre workshop had to offer. Her energy enthusiasm and curiosity about the world led her to explore, study, travel and learn all she could about it all – nature, history, art and people. At Mom’s request there will be no funeral service. Please remember her when you see a soaring bird, a lovely tree, a curious pebble on the shore, for she will always be a part of our wonderful world. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated. (Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre 705-759-2522).
