On the morning of Friday November 17, 2023, at the age of 76, we lost our beloved matriarch peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loving and supportive family by her side.

Karen’s love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. Her home was a haven of love, laughter, and good food, where family and friends gathered.

Loving wife of Marvin for 60 years, cherished mother of Marnie Merrifield (Brian) and Scott Kennedy (Melisa) of Mississauga. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Cailyn Black (Kyle), Jessica Walters (Peter), Jamie Merrifield (Dylan Broadbent), Laura Kennedy (Ryan Love), and Kevin Kennedy. The apples of her eye were GG’s great-grand babies, Isla, Rylee, Weston, Willow, Theodore & another on the way in March.

Loving daughter of the late Keith and Vera Swallow. Sister of the late Carman (Lorraine), Judith (late Walter), and late Bill (Jan).  Daughter-in-law of the late Eunice and Clifford Kennedy.  Sister-in-law of Dwain (Nuallagh), Les (Susan), and Clayton.  Beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Special friend and cousin to Barbara Roberts and Delma Clace.

Karen was very proud to work for Sears for 34 years. She was also a very passionate singer in multiple singing groups and choirs over the years.

Gramma loved spending her time at the camp at Ranger Lake. She enjoyed an ice cold caesar or the odd beer in her screened-in porch, and she was always up for a good game of cards - for money, of course. She and Pa taught the kids how to shuffle the deck, how to bake, do crafts and garden. She enjoyed her days in the lake and was adamant that everyone join her for a swim, especially on the wavy days. Hallmark movies played year-round, as Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved decorating the house, singing carols and baking/eating her favourite shortbreads (butter makes everything better!) and other famous Christmas treats.

As per mom’s wishes, a private family celebration will take place next summer at her special place.

The family wishes to thank her Dr’s Jonusaitis, Voutsadakis, Wilson and Buehner, the staff of SAH Cancer Clinic, the ER and 3B nursing staff, and all the special angels at ARCH.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation to the wonderful facility of ARCH (Payable by cheque or online). This community is truly fortunate to have access to such a special place for our loved ones to make their final journey.
