Sylvia Frances Jones - August 2, 1935 - November 30, 2023

With sad hearts, we want to let you know that Sylvia Francis Jones passed away peacefully in her 89th year on Wednesday, November 30th, 2023 at the Sault Area Hospital.

Sylvia was the daughter of Agnes (nee Jones) and Frank Bates and is survived by her sister Beverley Hope. Sylvia was married to Robert Lewis Jones from 1955 to 2001.  “Bob and Syl” had four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; Son, Douglas Jones (Lisa) and their three children, Sarah, Hannah and Jameson. Daughter, Arlene Haring (Brian) and their two children, Kelly (Andrew) and Robert (Kathryn) and great grandchild Bennett. Daughter, Lorraine Rains and her Children Emalee (Will) and Owen (Sara), and daughter, Katherine Moynihan (John) and their children Pamela (Josh) and Mackenzie (Celine).

Before settling in the Soo in the 90’s, Bob and Syl  raised their family in Oakville where Sylvia was a valued employee of both the Township of Oakville and the Oakville fire department.

Some of Sylvia’s greatest joys were family gatherings, lists, puzzles, entertaining at a well-decorated dinner table and all the fun playing games, and the laughter that followed a great dinner.  Her favourite TV shows, Jeopardy and MASH, were a part of her daily routine.

She enjoyed being a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Sorority Beta Sigma Phi and the charitable work they did. She was also a member of the Quilt Guild in the Sault, one of her greatest joys was making quilts for family members, and now her works of art are cherished by many. She was also involved in making laptop quilts for various charities throughout the Sault.

On a personal note from her children; Mom never hesitated to help and support her kids through difficult and trying times, her heart was always in the right place and her dedication to her family was never ending. We will truly miss her.

Due to so many factors, our family being so spread out and in keeping everyone safe and healthy, we thought you might like to pay your respects, share a memory or heartfelt story, about Sylvia, Syl, Mom, Grandmom, Auntie Syl, or GG short form for Great Grandmom.
