Johnson Leonard
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the age of 80, in the lovely setting of the Algoma Residential Community Hospice in Sault Ste. Marie, with loving family at his bedside. Len was born on March 2, 1938 to parents Victor Einar Johnson and Anna Lisa Nilsson in Port Arthur, Ontario, now known as Thunder Bay. Len grew up as a Current River boy, loving fishing and the great outdoors. Len worked as a telephone technician for Bell Telephone from 1951 until 1973. It was during this time that he met his first wife Joan Hainstock. Their three children Carol, Susan and Doug grew up learning to swim and ski. Numerous camping trips and family vacations instilled great family values as well as the appreciation for fun. By 1973 Len was ready for a new challenge and became electrical purchasing agent for C.A. Johnson Electric for the next 21 years. After Joan passed away Len was very lucky to have met Louise Garneau of Quebec City while wintering in Avon Park, Florida. Len and Louise married at Pine Bay in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Two years later they settled in a beautiful home on St. Joseph Island outside of Sault Ste. Marie. They had eleven wonderful years together enjoying golfing while wintering in Avon Park, Florida. Louise then introduced Len to the pleasures of exploring Quebec and Europe. Len is survived by his wife Louise, daughter Carol Adduono (Peter), daughter Susan Thompson (Gordon) and son Doug (Heather Hay). Grand children Robyn (Jordan Tetreault), Jake, Max, Piper and Paige. Brother of Swede (Jean Kennedy). Predeceased by his first wife Joan, son-in-law Peter and his sister Ann. He will be missed by his valued in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. As per Len’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A Celebration of Len’s life will be at the Valhalla Inn, Scandia Room (1 Valhalla Inn Road, Thunder Bay, Ontario) on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH, 229 Fourth Line West, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 0B5). Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B 0B6 705-945-7758).
