Germaine Janveau was a caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law and friend to many. She is the daughter of Ferdinand and Joy (Burritt) born in Mattawa, ON, June 12th, 1934. Germaine is the eldest of the family: sister to late Romeo (Anita); Don (Jean); Ed (late Patricia); Mel (Eva); Gerry (late Lee); Ken (Julia); Brenda Nesom (late John); Jack (Constance) and Brian (late Mary). Germaine will always be a special sister and sister-in-law to us all. She will always be an unforgettable and cherished aunt to all nieces and nephews.

At a young age of eighteen, Germaine left home to begin her teaching career at rural (one room) schools in Powassan, ON, Meilleurs Bay, ON and Cameron Township, Mattawa, ON.  Teaching and living at home in Cameron she had the challenge of teaching several of her siblings.  She moved to Sault-Ste-Marie, ON (with brother Romeo) for a couple of years, then several years to Deep River, ON. The city of Ottawa, ON became the place she called home and where she retired in 1988.

Remaining in Ottawa, ON after retirement, she joined the travel industry where she was able to pursue her desire to see the world. Germaine was an active golfer and curler into her 80’s. She followed many sports including her love for football and hockey where she attended many professional games. Germaine was an icon in her own way and inspired those around her. She also became the matriarch to her family. She left us with beautiful memories with her love being our guide.  Although, we can not see her, she is always at our side. Rest in peace lovely lady. You are and will be deeply missed.

Our hearts are saddened to announce her passing on June 15, 2023, three days after her 89th birthday. Cremation has taken place in Ottawa.

A celebration of her life will take place in Mattawa, ON, on July 27, 2023, at 11:00am with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne's Church (241 2nd St, Mattawa, On), followed by burial and interment of ashes with her parents.
