HORMAVIRTA, Eileen (Griffith)

Died December 30, 2003 at the F.J. Davey Home in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband Jorma and her parents Captain Matthew and Florence Griffith; survived by her sister Florence Haft (Victor) and her brothers Carl and Fred (Marguerite). She is missed by her family and by her nieces, nephews and their children. Eileen was educated at Sault Collegiate and at the time of her graduation established a record for the highest marks ever attained. She continued her education at Normal School, Queen’s University, the Ontario College of Art and a life long interest in all things artistic. With her husband Jorma they developed a hobby of designing and creating beautiful jewelry in gold and silver to complement their outdoor hobbies of canoeing and sailing. The Hormavirtas spent their working life in Montreal and New York but after Jorma’s death in Florida Eileen moved back to Sault, Michigan and then to the Canadian side in 1994.
