It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy on Monday, January 16, 2023.  Roy died peacefully in his home, in his 81st year, surrounded by his family.

He was married to the love of his life, Bernadette (nee Simon), for 53 years.  He was the best dad to Steven (Rose), Krista (Stephen) and Kevin (Chelsea).  Roy was a very proud Grampa to Kailen, Ava, Georgia, Simon, Chloe and Harvey.  Roy was born on May 3, 1942 to the late Evelyn and John Hilderley.  Brother to Don (Pat), Jim, Jane (Sakari) and Kathy (Jeff).  Son-in-law to the late Karol and Rosalia Simon.  Loved dearly by his brothers and sisters-in-law and his many nieces and nephews.

Our dad was very proud to be one of the founding families at our happy place, McCarroll’s Lake, where several generations of children and grandchildren grew up racing boats, waterskiing and fishing.  He valued hard work, integrity and family.  He enjoyed the occasional “Pepsi”, golfing, boating, waterskiing, taking his grandchildren for a ride in the plow truck, and visiting his daughter in New Zealand where he could jump in the spa or swim in the ocean.  Those that knew him best would say his lifelong advice was very memorable.

Roy was a proud member of Local 504 and was an advocate for pension plans for his fellow union workers.  He was a skilled tradesman specializing in sheet metal (“tin knocker”), HVAC, welding, iron working and gas fitting.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) for visitation on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm.  There will be a mass at Precious Blood Cathedral, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 am. Memorial donations can be made payable by cheque or online to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.  The family would like to express our sincerest thank you to the Bayshore Nurses, especially Sean, April and Kathy, as well as Dr. Booth, Dr. Rassouli and all the staff at the Cancer Clinic.   Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Hilderley family.
