After a valiant year and a half struggle to the very end with lung cancer, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends at his side, Richard (Dick) passed away Sunday, January 8, 2006 in his 72nd year. Loving and devoted husband to Staphana (Steph) for 40 years. Dedicated loving father to Ken. Predeceased by his parents Anne and Raymond Hattie of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia where Richard was born July 15, 1934. Brother to the late Hughie, Vincent, Katie, Sherman, Ethel and infant sister Ann. Survived by sister-in-law Emma Hattie (Yarmouth, Nova Scotia), brother-in-law Maurice Lucyk (Sudbury, Ontario) and many wonderful friends, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will miss his sharp intellect, sense of humour, authoritative knowledge and his love of storytelling. In his 33 year career at the Sault District Jail, he was fondly known and respected as G.O.D. (Good Old Dick). Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 from 6-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Jerome’s Catholic Church on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 10 am. Rev. Hamish Currie and Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Hoag officiating. Cremation to follow. Memorial contributions to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, United Baptist Church, SAH Cancer Clinic, Diabetes Association, SAH Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
