HARTEN, Leonard James

Went home to be with the Lord in his 85th year on
Sunday February 15, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Devoted, loving husband of Elizabeth "Toots" Harten (nee Bonnee). Son of the late James
(Jim) Harten MM and Sarah Harten (nee MacRae). Step-son of Beatrice Harten (nee Adams). Step-brother of the late Betty Horbituk (Bill). Uncle of Steven and Alison Horbituk, James and Mary Jane Horbituk, Robert and Mary
Horbituk and his niece Elizabeth Horbituk. Great uncle to many nieces and nephews. Leonard will be missed by his friends at the restaurants, Yolanda's, Dixon Hills and his loving neighbours Jerry and Edith, David and
Rita and Gerry. As well as cousins Roy and Laura Harten, daughters Sarah, Mandy, Beth and Emma and the staff of the FJ Davey Home-Apple Orchard third floor. Leonard served as an Able Seaman in the Canadian Merchant Navy
during World War II. He will be remembered for his fine workmanship at Soo Tinsmiths and Roofers which he owned along with Tom Simons of Richards Landing. Summers were spend working alongside his wife Elizabeth in the
family owned tourist complex-Bonnee's Pine Island Resort. In his leisure time he liked to fly the skies over the North Channel in his Piper Cub and boat and fish in his Courtney craft. Leonard was a dedicated servant of the
Lord Jesus Christ and worked effortlessly for His church, Our Saviours Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sault, Canada until its closing. Friends may call at Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Wednesday February 18, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until time of funeral service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend John Schnose of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sault, Michigan officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the graveside service in the lower lounge of the Northwood Funeral Home. Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Special thanks to the dedicated, loving and exemplary staff of the General Hospital 200Y, Plummer Complex Continuing Care Unit and the Plummer Palliative Care Unit.
