Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in her 90th year surrounded by her family.

Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Alexander Harry.  Proud mother of Cathy Hussey (Stephen), Robert, Beth Laking (David), Colin (Silke), and Chris (Jin).  Loved and respected by her grandchildren Caitlin (Brett), Jennifer, Ian, Alex (Mina), Reid (Jen), Hilary (Nick), Jordan, Spencer, Fin, Nolan and her great granddaughter Olivia.  Predeceased by her parents Donald and Edna Snedden.  Fondly remembered  by her cousin Sandra and many nieces and nephews.  As a child, Shirley was nicknamed “The Sweet Little Pickle of Piety Hill” in Pakenham, Ontario.  She trained as a nurse at the Toronto General Hospital before falling for Alex and moving to the "Great White North".  Shirley then dedicated her life to raising their family of five while Alex built a law practice and served the community. Over the years, they shared a full and busy life travelling, developing deep friendships and spending quality time at the cottage.  Shirley established long lasting relationships with her Bridge Club gals, Snowbunnies, Questers, childhood friends and nursing classmates.  She volunteered for a variety of organizations over the years.

The family invites you to a Service in Shirley's memory on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 1 pm at the Art Gallery of Algoma (10 East Street) followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:40 pm to 4 pm. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to Doctors without Borders, SAH Foundation, SAH Renal Dialysis, MS Society or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Thank you to the staff at Pathways for making Shirley feel at home.  The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion provided by all the nurses, doctors and staff at the Sault Area Hospital in particular Dr. Dawson and Dr. Berry.  Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
