Peacefully, surrounded by family at the Sault Area Hospital on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Lempi Pearson for 35 years and the late Sheila Haldenby for 35 years. Loving father of Phillip (Iris), Griffis (Susan), Cindy Mathewson (late Emerson), Melanie Baker (late Doug) and Ruth-Anne Dussault (Claude). Step father of Wayne, Bill, late Craig, Tracey and the late Kaarle. Cherished grandpa of George, Denise, April, Griffis, Jane, Andrew, Robin, Lottie, Dexter, Alex. Step grandfather of Tamara, Leia and Ferdinando and great grandfather of 24 and great great grandfather of 4. Brother of the late Rev. Allan Haldenby (late Grace), late Jean Bier (late Tom), late Ferris.
George was a longtime volunteer fireman for the Echo Bay Fire Department and he was an avid fisherman and shared the love of woodworking with his wife Lempi. For years, George farmed in Sylvan Valley on his family heritage farm where he raised animals and grew a beautiful garden. To this day, his farm is still in the family owned by his grandson George Jr. He was a hard working man who worked his entire career for the MTO as a heavy equipment operator.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Sylvan Valley Cemetery. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
