On Christmas Day, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family, God peacefully called our beautiful angel Maria to be with him. She will forever be remembered by her generosity, strength and kind spirit who loved her family with her whole heart and soul. She believed that life was fulfilling as long as you were surrounded by those you love. And loved she was.

Devoted and loving wife of Gaetano for 65 years. Cherished mother of Gina, Maurino (Kelly) and Lora Caputo (Randy). Adored nonna of Eva, Mara Christie (Seth) and Anthony (girlfriend Maddie). Beloved daughter of the late Francesco and Rosa Coccimiglio. Treasured sister of the late Emma Giardino (late Michele), late Geniale Coccimiglio (late Louisa), late Diolanda Guidoccio (late Angelo), late Adolfo Coccimiglio (late Marisa), Ida Guido (Fiore), Theresa Albidone, Giaconda DePasquale (Edward), and Santino Coccimiglio (Sandra). Dear daughter-in-law of the late Eugenio and late Teresa Guidoccio and sister-in-law of the late Natale Guidoccio (late Angela), Amadeo Guidoccio (Rosina), late Angelo Guidoccio (late Diolanda), late Carmelo Guidoccio (Rosetta), Maria Chiarello (Raffaele), late Raffaele Guidoccio (Francesca) and late Francesco Guidoccio (late Maria).  Dear zia to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Maria came to Canada from Italy in 1958, traveling by boat for many days, in hopes of providing a better life for her family. She worked hard every day, never complained even through difficult times. She continued with that enduring strength until her very last day.  Those that knew Maria would tell you that her greatest joy and most prized possession was her family. Nothing was more important than time with family where she would always be hovering around, never sitting for a minute, making sure everything was perfect. Food was always the center of family gatherings as she loved cooking and baking (especially her signature peach cookies and lemon canoli). Those that visited her home can attest to the wonderful aromas coming out of her kitchen.  Her generosity spoke volumes as you could never leave her home without eating something or taking a goody bag with you. Her passion was planting and growing her garden in the summer with her grandkids beside her. There are so many wonderful memories of them harvesting vegetables covered in dirt from head to toe.  These moments and many many others will live on in our hearts forever.

Special thank you to Dr. Jenkins, Nurse Denise, Dr. Kurniawan, Dr. Shafiee, the nurses and staff on 3C, and PSWs Danielle, and Sue-Ella who supported and cared for her.  No words can properly express our gratitude for the unconditional devotion and affection in her time of need.

Due to the current pandemic a private funeral service, officiated by Fr. Trevor Scarfone, will be held on Thursday December 31, 2020. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, 705-759-2522).  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society Sault and Algoma District, Parkinson Canada or St. Gregory's Church Fund would be appreciated by the family.
