GOODMURPHY, Ray
July 18, 1938 – March 8, 2024
Surrounded by loving family Ray passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on March 8, 2024, after a short battle with melanoma at the age of 85. Beloved husband and best friend for 64 years of Jeannine (Cordukes). Father to Deborah Tonelli (Brian), Bruce (Kerry) and Suzanne Goodmurphy Jones (Christopher). Loving Poppy to his grandchildren Devin (Christine), Lauren, Gregory (Danielle), Benjamin, Shannon, Kaitlyn, and Dawson. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Annie Goodmurphy, his parents-in-law John and Ann Cordukes and his siblings Lyla Walker (Lloyd), Blanche Walker (Gerald), Lloyd Goodmurphy, Doris Crockford (Earl), Norma Crockford (Len), Lawrence Goodmurphy (Norma & Barb), and Glenna Crockford (Ross), as well as sister in-law Fay Barlow (Jack). He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ray was born and raised in Dayton, moved to Sowerby with the love of his life in 1960 and then to Thessalon in 2022.
Ray loved the outdoors and spent most of his career operating his own business as a forestry contractor. Spending time at Basswood Lake and RVing the countryside were among his passions. When time permitted, he also loved getting lost in a good book. Baby Ray, as he was known by his siblings, loved boating, snowmachining and, of course, the annual deer hunt on Cockburn Island.
Ray was a quiet, kind and gentle soul, always willing to help others. He was a member of Dyment Masonic Lodge as a Very Worshipful Brother, Scottish Rite attaining the 32nd Degree, and a member of the Huron Shrine Club.
The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 3C at Sault Area Hospital for their care and compassion and for helping Ray pass in comfort.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Beggs Funeral Home, 175 Main St., Thessalon on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, beginning at 7pm until 9pm. Funeral Service will be held at Zion United Church, 224 Main St., Thessalon on Thursday, March 14, 2024, beginning at 11am with Brian Mundell officiating. Light luncheon in the church basement following services. Spring interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Masonic Brethren are asked to assemble to honour Very Worshipful Brother Ray Goodmurphy prior to the funeral service.
