GIOVENTU, Mrs. Mary Catherine "Tuggie" (nee Mattie)

Age 68 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, died in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Cathy was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on March 26, 1937 to Francis and Margaret Mattie. She was the oldest of 18 children. Cathy was raised and educated in Antigonish and at the age of 20, Cathy moved to Sault Ste. Marie where she remained until 1998, when she moved to Thunder Bay. During her time in Sault Ste. Marie, she raised her family and also worked as a manager of a Mike's Mart where she made it one of the best stores in the chain. She was an excellent business woman. Prior to her work in retail, Cathy was a Nurses Aid and because she was such a great caregiver, it made her extremely proud of the care she gave at her job and throughout her life. While in the Sault, Cathy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where she met many close friends who kept in touch over the years. She was very proud of her heritage and loved her Nova Scotia hockey players. Cathy always enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She was a person who loved her time traveling(Nova Scotia, Sault Ste Marie and California) one of her most stimulating times were standing in front of the slot machines at any casino. Cathy is survived by her children, Brenda MacDougall (John O'Neil), Thunder Bay, Donna Lemire, Thunder Bay, Debbie MacDougall, Thunder Bay, Bill MacDougall (Karen), Sacramento, California, Guy Gioventu, Sault Ste. Marie, grandchildren, Kiersten, Jessie, Meagan, Justin, Chelsey, Robert and Jordan, six sisters, seven brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Margaret, four brothers, Jimmie, Blaze, Allen, and Melvin and son-in-law Paul. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 14, 2006 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in Corpus Christi Church at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Vigil Services will be offered on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Mary Gioventu in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 24, 2007.
