It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our patriarch. Donald V. Gibbs (Chummy) who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday October 30, 2023, at the age of 90 at the Sault Area Hospital.

Best friend and loving husband to his wife Andrea Gibbs. Predeceased by his 1st wife Pauline Nolan and his 2 sons Donald Jr. and Nolan. He will be greatly missed by his 13 children,18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. All his cousins and friends. Best friend to his sole surviving brother Kenny Gibbs (Pam) and his buddy George Schryer (Judy).

His proudest accomplishment was being a father. He always found time to love, support and guide his children. Don was deeply proud of his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as papa, grandpa, pops and GG.

He was proud of being a Korean War Veteran and proudly wore his uniform. For the last 24 years every November for Remembrance Day he has attended Mrs. DeZordo’s class to share his War experiences with her students. Something he looked forward to every year.

At the core of it all was his love for his wife Andrea. Together they shared a long, loving marriage of 44 years. Their relationship exemplified the meaning of true love and friendship.

We wish to thank the paramedics and the nursing staff at the Sault Area Hospital, as well as Drs Lane and Apostle for their great care until his passing.

Friends and family are invited to join us for a short service followed by a Celebration of Life on Sunday November 19, 2023, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, (temporarily at Marconi Multicultural Event Centre at 450 Albert St. W. SSM).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arch in Donald’s memory. (Payable by cheque or online).
