Gerald “Jerry” Raymond Frech, age 70 of Portage, IN passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 in Chesterton, IN. He was born September 23, 1941 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Louis J. and Ellen G. (Brady) Frech, who preceded him in death. Jerry is survived by his brother, Louis (Ann) Frech of Chesterton, IN; sister, Margaret (Ronald) Irwin of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews in the US and Canada. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack (John) Frech. Jerry formerly worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario. He also worked at Bethlehem Steel, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. As a boy in the ‘Soo’ Jerry enjoyed many hours camping and fishing. Vacations were spent with his family in Sault Ste. Marie where he and his father shared their love of fishing. In younger years, Jerry golfed, played hockey and fished the docks in Burns Harbor. In retirement, he kept in touch with friends in his coffee group, his church and visiting. There will be no services. Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN with burial of ashes at a later date at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
