What a life it was

After 95 rich years, Alfio Gasparelli, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Gasparelli (Lauzon) and his 5 children John (Bobbi), Christine, Robert (friend Tracey), Patrick (Deborah) and Rosanne ( Komni ) along with his 5 grandchildren (Colin, Christopher, Noah, Kyle, and Joshua).  Also, by his brother Rudy Gasparelli (Carole) and their children Katie (Derek and family), Janet (Dan and family), and Micheal (Kristi).

Alfio was born on October 14, 1928, and was a lifelong inquirer/learner. He was recognized by many names, George, Kum George, Uncle Billy and Nonno and his life was filled with rich experiences. He was the first born Canadian in his family. He helped his mom out with their West End Meat Market. He was a gymnast at the west end YMCA and loved skiing with his friends and family. He adventured around on his motorcycle that he owned with his friend Ray.

Alfio was instrumental in organizing his group of friends from the West end to gather throughout the years. After becoming a husband and father he became an elementary school teacher then a VP. He was able to fulfil his dream of travelling with his family across Canada, to the US, Mexico, and a few times to Europe. After teaching he became a job counselor helping others to find a place to use their talents. Alfio loved pastries, and spending time in the kitchen cooking or baking but most of all doing dishes. A continued member of the YMCA he made time to play squash and spend Saturday family nights together. He was a long-time member at the George Leach Centre and was active his entire life.

After retirement he spent most of his time at Gasparelli’s 40, his camp on St. Joseph’s Island. He loved spending time on his tractor and enjoying nature. For Alfio, nothing was more fulfilling than Sunday family dinners.

Dad, we will miss you during our Sunday domino games.
