GALLOWAY, Catharine Elaine

She was the daughter of L.T. Carroll and his wife Dorothy (nee Isherwood). Everyone knew her as Mickie. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie on April 14, 1919. She loved the Soo and thought there was no better place to live.

During the depression her parents bought a confectionary store on Queen Street E. and called it Carrolls. It kept the family afloat and Mickie worked there while attending Sault Collegiate. She married Don Galloway in June 1945 after he returned from Europe where he fought in World War 2. They had two children, Sheila Turcon and Susan Turner (Jim). She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren Don Turner (Jamie) and Christine Turner (Gabe Fairbrother). She also has 3 great grandchildren Gage (Sophie) and Hailee Turner and Ellis Fairbrother.

After her daughters left for university she became an employee of Virene's department store, work she loved. Unfortunately her husband Don died in 1976 but after some difficult years Mickie thrived. She had a house on Bainbridge Street where she loved to garden. She travelled in North America with the Sunshine Club and to Europe with friends of whom she had many. She was an enthusiastic member of the Y-Hikers for many years.

At the age of 93 she gave up her home and moved to supportive housing at Kotitalo at the Finnish Resthome. We thank the staff for their excellent care and her Doctor Mark Edwards. After a long and full life she died on June 8. Her daughters were by her side during her brief final illness. Thank you Dr. Wilson for your care and guidance.

Mickie's family was the centre of her life and her love was returned in full measure. At Mickie's request there will not be a visitation. If you wish to remember Mickie a donation to the charity of your choice (payable online or by cheque) would be appreciated. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Galloway family.
