Frechette obit
Peacefully passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the age of 88.

Beloved husband of Bertelaine. Loving father of Kevin, Lori Patterson (Andrew), and Marni Frechette-Mingay. Much loved grandfather of Erin Mingay (Travis Canning), Linsey Patterson (Kelsey Shaw), Christopher Mingay, and Caleb Patterson. Beloved son of the late Leota (Harris) and the late George Frechette. Ken was the last sibling; loving brother of Margaret Cooper (Barry), Lauretta Chaput (Joseph), George (Joyce), Alberta Hubley (Roger), and Joan Durand (John). Much loved son-in-law of the late Albert and the late Elaine Dunn. Brother-in-law of Richard Dunn (Marilyn). Ken will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born in Thessalon and lived in Sault Ste. Marie most of his life. Always the optimist, Ken worked hard and lived life to the fullest. He retired from Algoma Steel as an electrical technician. Ken approached life full of wit and humour. Whether he was on the golf course, hunting, fishing with Harvey LeFave, or on the slopes, he enjoyed being close to nature. His love of nature is reflective in his artwork. Ken was brilliant with a brush; many of his works are proudly displayed in his home for his family’s pleasure.

Ken was a faithful man and had a strong relationship with God. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a shining example of how to live a moral life and it showed in all of his relationships. Ken was “The Guy”, he could fix almost anything and was always willing to lend a hand. Ken had many adventures with his childhood friend Conrad Humphries - their friendship lasted their lifetimes.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. (maximum 40 people at a time, masks are required). A private family Mass will be held. A public Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020. Those who wish to attend are invited to arrive at Northwood Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m. and park in procession, please remain in your vehicles upon arrival (masks are required at the cemetery). Memorial donations made to the SAH Palliative Care Fund or ARCH would be appreciated.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Booth, Dr. Tozer, Dr. Schamp, and his angel Dr. Parsons, who made such a difference in his care and showed such compassionate support. Special thanks to Cindy Tynan, a Bayshore RN who cared for Ken in his home and was his rock. The 1B and 3B nurses, the Palliative Care Team at the Sault Area Hospital and the Occupational and Physiotherapists who were his advocates. There are too many nurses and caregivers to name them all, but if you were greeted with a huge grin, he cracked a joke or called you sweetheart, sweetie, or were told I love you, then you know were one of the special ones.

Even when he wasn’t feeling well, he never complained, he would sing a little song and always had a smile. Above all else Ken was a positive and loving man; this love was always felt by his best friend Bertelaine, his children and his grandchildren. He was loved.
