Joan Foster passed away gracefully while surrounded by her husband and daughters. Beloved wife and best friend of Marvin for 67 years. Mother of Shelva Torrance (Gerald) and Kendra LaPlaunt (Jerry). Predeceased by her parents John Stevenson and Tyyne (nee Waltonen).

Joan met the love of her life Marvin, and they married in 1956 at the Rydal Bank Church. Both were born and raised in the Poplar Dale area which was always an important part of their lives. Together with the help of Norma Bernardi as well as numerous families from the area they gathered photos and researched materials publishing 4 books about the history of Poplar Dale and surrounding area. It was a labour of love.

Joan and Marvin were inseparable. Together they travelled throughout Canada and the US enjoying Blue Grass Festivals. Joan was proud of her Finnish heritage and loved going to the local Finnish Festivals. Her and Marvin also enjoyed researching their family’s genealogy and learning about their heritage.

Family was important to Joan. Her and Marvin were engaged in every aspect of their grandchildren’s lives. Family visits, visits to Poplar Dale, attending graduations and travel, especially to Cedar Point where many memories were made.

Joan worked as a PSW in long term care for many years, retiring at 78 years of age. She was dedicated to her work having never missed a day. She was compassionate and kind to her residents and their families.

Joan had a deep faith and enjoyed attending the Faith Baptist Church.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Van Daele Manor for the care given to our mother and father and Pastor TJ Telfer for his unwavering support and comfort.

As per Joan’s wishes there is no visitation or service.
