We regret to announce the passing of Homer, suddenly but peacefully, with family by his side.

Son of John Rutherford “Jack” Foster and Amelia May Christilaw.  Predeceased by his brothers Raymond Henry (Laura Gay), Harold Robert (Dilys Matthews), and Leslie Nelson (Alice Jarman), and half-sisters Christina Lee, Anna Gertrude, and Jane Beryl.  Beloved uncle of Stanley and Evelyn, Lynleigh (Douglas) and James (Nora), Janet, Pamela, John, and Donald.  Great uncle of Kim, Jason (Debbie) and Jonathan (Lisa), Rhiannon (Tony), Caitlin and Amber. Proud Great Great Uncle of Joshua, Chelsea, Charlee, ‘papa’ to Tobi, Jackson, Haleigh and Savannah. Special friend of Mike and Melissa Johnson and family.

Homer was born in Thessalon.  He and his brothers served in World War 2. He joined the Sault Star, first as a reporter, then eventually assuming the position of editor, which he held until his retirement. Homer was active in city planning for Sault Ste Marie in recognition of his efforts, the city named Foster Drive in his honour.  He enjoyed cross-county skiing in Hiawatha Park, and hosting family dinners at his favourite Italian restaurants. His giving and generous nature impacted many lives.

A private family memorial service has been held.  Memorial donations to the charity of choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave a message of condolence or a memory as a keepsake for Homer's family.
