FOGLIA, Luisa (nee Pisano) (1935 – 2023) - Peacefully in her home on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Pietro (2006) for over 50 years.
Luisa was born in Caccuri Catanzaro, Calabria and made the move to Canada in December 1958. She and Pietro had a beautiful life in Canada and leave to mourn their beloved children Maria Fera (Michael), Jo-Anna Friyia (Dan), Sam Foglia (Laura Lee), Franca Roberts and Pina Avati (Tony).
Nothing made Nonna happier than her home filled on all occasions, feeding her pasta, meatballs and delicious creations with her grandchildren who will greatly miss her: Anna-Luisa Gillespie (Greg), Peter Foglia (Shawlee), Daniel Friyia (Steffi), Toni-Marie Streicher (Collin), Nathan Foglia (Megan), Samantha Friyia, late John Roberts, Sarah Fewchuk (Brent), Michael Avati (Alyssa), Joey Roberts (Karly), Emily Roberts, Steven Avati (Sara) and her great grandchildren Michael, Stella, Maria, Bruce, Anthony, Betty and Grace. Even though she passed her love and knowledge of food to all of us, nobody can make it as good as Nonna. She always knew and made sure everyone’s favourites were on the table.
Luisa was the oldest child of the late Giovannina Catalano and the late Francesco Pisano and is survived by her sisters Amelia, Anna and Maria and is predeceased by Luigi, Rosetta, Giuseppe and Theodore. With modern technology she was able to reach across the ocean and reminisce and speak with her sisters and dearly loved sister-in-law, Terasina. She was the loved sister-in-law of the late Giovanni Foglia (late Maria), late Antonio Foglia (Angelina), late Maria Mangone (late Salvatore), late Guisepina Iaconis (late Luigi), late Rosetta Carchidi (Francesco), late Carmen Foglia (Antonietta) and the late Isabella Succurro (late Vittorio).
She leaves to mourn dozens of nieces and nephews who over the years have taken the time to chat, reminisce and share forgotten family secrets and recipes. She will be dearly missed by her lifelong special friend and sister-in-law Angelina Foglia. Their twice daily phone calls were a comfort to all of us.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated by the family.
