It is with great sadness that the family of William Fleming announces his sudden passing at home in Toronto on January 2, 2005. Beloved husband and best friend of Joanne (Bardell). Dear brother of Margaret MacTavish (Doug), Jean Kettles (Joe), John (Leah), Marie McCulligh (the late Ron), brother-in-law of Gary Bardell (Susan). Cherished uncle of Allan and David MacTavish, Darlene Lever, Jim and Jon Kettles, Pilar and Mitchell Szarko, Murray and Mark McCulligh, Janet, James and Jackie O'Donnell, Christopher, Jennifer and Kimberley Bardell. Bill was born and grew up in Bruce Mines, Ontario. He attended the local high school and then lived in Kirkland Lake where he worked in the gold mines. His university education included a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo and DDS and MScD degrees from the University of Toronto. He also received a fellowship from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada. After teaching high school in Waterloo, Bill went on to a career in dentistry that included positions as Chief of Dentistry at St. Michael's Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry; in addition he conducted a private dental practice in North Toronto. He enjoyed traveling and speaking engagements in various countries around the world. Bill very much enjoyed his career and cherished the good friends he met along the way. Throughout his life he continued to return to his roots where he enjoyed working on his family farm in the Bruce Mines area. Bill loved the outdoors where he would often walk with Joanne and his faithful and beloved dogs Kayley, Teddy and Max. Friends may call at the Trull "North Toronto" Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Friday afternoon at two o'clock. The interment will be at Cloudslee Cemetery, Bruce Mines at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA.
