FLEMING, Arthur Lyman "Meredith" QC

Posted

With family and dear friend, Georgina McCance, beside him in the Veteran's Wing at Sunnybrook Hospital, on June 19, 2006. Meredith is survived by his sons Richard (Elspeth) and Robert (Anita), both of Sault Ste. Marie, and Ian (Lori) of St. John's, and his grandchildren Ted, Eric, Laura, Suzanne, Allister, Noah, and Holly. Predeceased by his wife, Marie Louise (LeSueur) in 1989. He served his country (Mentioned in Dispatches) as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery, initially with the 23rd Field Regiment. He also served St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital as Chairman of the Board, St. Clement's Church as coach of its hockey team for many years, and his clients as senior partner and litigation barrister with the law firm, Fleming, White & Burgess. Meredith was a keen fisherman, skier (Osler Bluff Ski Club), and tennis player (Badminton & Racquet Club). He will long be remembered for his quick and inventive wit, his concern with attire and disdain for pretention, his loyalty to family and friends, his devotion to his aggressive bull terrier, Rex, his baseball, hockey, and railroading interests, and his red caboose. We thank Dr. Evelyn Williams and Meredith's other care-givers in K-wing, Alice, Bedelyn, Christobelle, and Gelina, for their exceptional kindness during his last year. We will celebrate Meredith's life on his 89th birthday, Tuesday, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement's Church, 59 Briar Hill Avenue.
