The family of Joseph Ferris would like to announce his passing into heaven on Saturday January 17, 2009. He was a man of profound compassion and love for his family and we will truly miss his presence in our lives. We know that he will rest peacefully in the hands of God and is finally reunited with his precious wife Helen. Joseph was born May 25, 1915 and married his loving wife Helen (nee Nebesnuik) on that same date 25 years later. Treasured father of Bernice Pawelek (Stan), Nicholas (Norma) and Debbie Graystone (Roxie). Adored Gigo of Liisa Ferris, Mark (Colleen), Lawrence (Delia) and Philip (Shannon) Pawelek, Roxie Jr. (Kirstin) and Amber Graystone. Cherished great-grandfather of Tyler, Alexis, Jalen and Jack Pawelek. He was the son of the late Samuel and Watfa Ferris and son-in-law of the late Michael and Paraska Nebesnuik. He leaves behind his brother Michael and is predeceased by brothers John, Charlie, Nicholas and sisters Martha, Mary and Eva. Joe and Helen resided in Bay View until they moved to North Street in 1980. He continued to actively participate as a member of the Bay View Athletic Club. After 40 years of service in a supervisory position, he retired from Algoma Steel. Joe also served his community for several years on the Committee of Adjustment for Sault Ste. Marie. Family and friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (St. George’s Avenue) on Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Marian Struc officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations made to the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated.
