Posted

Peacefully at home on Sunday, January 07, 2007. Beloved wife of the late Matteo Fasanello. Loving mother of seven children: Howard Fasanello (Betty), Loretta DeLonghi, John (predeceased 1980), Mary (predeceased 2001), Joseph (predeceased 1985), Ezio (predeceased 2005) and Irene (predeceased 2001). Born Concetta Immaculata Travolo in Fegline Vigliature, Cosenza, Italy, on Dec. 8, 1897, to Rose Aceti and Guy Travolo, Connie had seven brothers and sisters who have predeceased her, Frank, John, Louie, Joe, Caterina, Filomena and Fortunata. She immigrated to Canada aboard the Princess Irene, departing from Naples and arriving February 11, 1914. She was later married in Sherbrooke, Québec, to Matteo Fasanello, who had emigrated from Pesuco, Foggia, Italy, on the Luisiana, leaving Naples and arriving September 11, 1908, at the age of 18. Connie and Matteo later resided and raised their family on James Street in Sault Ste. Marie’s West End. Matteo died in 1972. Later Connie was a long-time resident in the seniors apartments at 588 Albert Street West. Her door was always open and she welcomed and loved to feed and talk with her many friends. On Mother’s Day in 1980, at a party organized by Eric Alessandrini, Mama Connie was honoured by 45 of “her boys,” among them a judge, a mayor, a fire chief, and restaurant owner, who had all eaten at her home over the years growing up in the West End, told her their problems and loved her. She danced with every man in the room that night. She spent her final years tenderly cared for in the home of her youngest daughter Loretta. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 6-9 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated from Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10 am. Rev. Eric Pannike officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
