(November 9, 1930 - April 16, 2017) - We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved mom and much loved grandma quietly tiptoed away from us on Easter morning, in her 87th year. A selfless matriarch who was devoted to those she loved, Emily passed away in Ottawa on April 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She will be forever missed but never forgotten by her children, Susan (Terry Donaghue), Elizabeth (Allan Darch), Cheryl (Douglas Gilbert), Linda Emily (Serge Boileau) and Ronald Elliott (Lee-Ann Elliott). Emily was an adoring grandmother to Emy Elliott Gilbert, James Elliott Gilbert, Irja Elliott Donaghue, and Ronald J. E. Elliott, Justin Elliott, and Nathan Elliott.

Emily was predeceased by her parents Susan and George Sharpe, by her loving husband of sixty years, Ronald Marvin Elliott (2007), and by her in-laws Ethel and Stanley Elliott. She was the cherished sister of Florence McLean (late Vern), Eunice Bourgond (late Al), and Milton and Dorothy Sharpe; and predeceased by Grace and Charles McBride, Dorothy and Charles Reddick, Georgina and Bill McQueen, Viola and Enzo Rossi, Norman and Pat Sharpe, and Ada Hermiston. She was the beloved sister-in-law of Marion Craig (late David), Carol Dinsmore, Stanley Elliott (Deb), Brian Elliott (Penny) and the late Shirley and Ernest Lavoie. Emily was a dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

A gifted seamstress, Emily showed her love for her family through her perfect seams and intricate stitches on the dozens of meticulously crafted quilts and hundreds of beautiful dresses and outfits that she created over the years. Her annual production of cozy flannel pajamas for every one of her children and grandkids was the highlight of many Christmases.

She was actively involved in her community, both as a past member of the Rebekahs and as an avid supporter of Rotary Community Days. Emily put others before herself in all that she did. Above all else, she was dedicated to the happiness of her children and grandchildren, who will fondly remember her as the reigning champion in any game of cards.

A private service will be held in Toronto, followed by a celebration of life in Sault Ste. Marie this coming summer (date to be announced). In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by Emily’s family.
