Dyni

(March 7, 1936 - November 30, 2020) - It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of James “Jim” Dyni, surrounded by family at his home on Monday, November 30, 2020 at age 84.  Beloved husband of Elaine Dyni (nee Mahoney) for 61 years. Cherished father of Lori Dyni, Christine Niro (Tony), Rosemary Dyni, and Terry Dyni (Lyndsay).  Proud Grandfather of Paul (Madeline), Sarah (Simon), Olivia, Robert, Maiya and Joshua.  Great Grandfather of James.  Brother of MaryAnn Wieczor (Ed), and the late Frank Dyni (late Phyllis). Brother-in-law of the late Leonard Mahoney (late Dorothy), late Joan Caron (late Pit), late Kathleen Mundy (late Stuart), late Raymond Mahoney (late Joyce), Rita Labine (late Joe), Jack Mahoney (Madeleine) and Ron Mahoney (late Rose).  Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents John and Rose Dyni.

Humble and hardworking with an infectious sense of humour, family mattered most to Jim who was always there to quietly lend a helping hand. From household fix-ups to automotive tune-ups, there isn’t a home or car of extended family and friends that didn’t benefit from Jim’s handiwork and craftsmanship.  Spirited cribbage battles around the kitchen table were a staple of gatherings, as Jim inspired generations of family members to take up the game.  Eager to always learn and tackle new challenges, he was committed to doing things right, evidenced most recently by his 2020 stellar crop of homegrown tomatoes.  A new hobby, he once again exceeded all expectations, and generously shared his bounty with all.

His two-year cancer battle was fought courageously and quietly with the support and professionalism of many.  The family extends our most sincere gratitude to Drs. Haider, Bowen, Voutsadakis, and Apostle, along with the dedicated and compassionate staff of the Oncology Unit at Sault Area Hospital and Bayshore Homecare services.

A special thank you to MaryAnn and Ed, and Michael, for their ongoing support, particularly in Jim’s final weeks.

A private family service will be held. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital (SAH) Foundation are appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
