(1934-2022)
With great sadness we announce the passing of João Pires Dos Reis at the age of 88.
He was predeceased by parents Maria Teresa Pires and Manuel Dos Reis.
He was a loving husband to Lucinda for 56 years, cherished father to Teresa and Manuel (Lisa), Proud Avô to Isaac, Sebastian and Rocco.
He was a dear brother to the late José late Florinda, late Glória (late José) and special brother-in-law to the late Albano Gomes and the late Maria Esperança Gomes.
He will be fondly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA, Portugal, Spain and France.
Like many other immigrants he came to Canada in 1970 to build a better future for himself, his children and, in turn, his future grandchildren. Packed in his suitcase was his love of his country; Portugal, wine making, gardening and the values of hard work, integrity, persistence and determination. He was always thankful to God "Graças a Deus" for what he was able to achieve and provide for his family.
He was a simple man who worked hard whether it was in construction, roofing, on the railway, sheet metal or later in his life as a delivery driver for the Medicine Shoppe.
If asked how he would like to be remembered, he would probably say a religious, kind and respectful person who helped others whenever he could.
Before he went to bed each night he would always say, "Até Amanhã se Deus Quizer" (until tomorrow if God wishes).
We are comforted in knowing that he is home with our Heavenly Father.
