DONIVAN, Delia (nee Vondette)

Posted

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and best friend, Delia Mary on Sunday May 29, 2011 at the Great Northern Nursing Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Delia will be dearly missed by all of us, especially daughters Shirley and husband Frank Sorrels of St. Ignace, Michigan, Lillian and husband Bill Therriault of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Debra and husband Tim Cross of Ottawa, Ontario. Delia also shared overflowing love and affection with her adored grandchildren, Kevin and Brian Ferguson, Steve and Christine Therriault, and Jennifer and Amanda Donivan. She was also greatly loved and cherished by her great-grandchildren, Riley and Brady Ferguson, Alex, Scott and Delia Therriault, Aaron and Sam Finke, Nathan Donivan, and Kaitlin and Kyla Donivan. Delia's kindness, gentleness, and generosity of spirit endeared her to everyone who knew her. She was born in Espanola on December 16th, 1921, one of 16 children raised on a farm by parents, Emile and Angele Vondette, a family unit sometimes short of cash but rich in spirit and love of each other. Delia was a much loved spouse to Victor Donivan, her devoted partner of 66 years until his death June 2nd, 2008. After their marriage in Sudbury, Ontario they moved to the Donivan family homestead in Chapleau in 1944. There they raised their three daughters, enjoying, nurturing, supporting and encouraging their children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Delia also greatly loved her surviving brothers Omer, Art and Richard, and her surviving sisters Marion, Doris, Jeannette, and Judy. She also will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit at the P.M. Gilmartin Visitation Centre (10 Young Street, Chapleau, ON, 1-800-439-4937) on Thursday June 2, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Sebastien Groleau officiating. Interment at the Chapleau Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations made to the C.N.I.B., the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Great Northern Nursing Centre would be appreciated by the family.
