1915 - 2006 Ellen Dechaine (Spring) was our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was 91 when she passed away at 3:00pm on Tuesday, September 5th 2006. Ellen was a great woman who devoted her whole life to helping others no matter what. She could always brighten up your day no matter how low you were, and she was the one person you could always count on to be there when you needed them..for this we thank you Ellen. Ellen was born July 21, 1915 to Thomas and Mary Ann Spring in Echo Bay ON. In 1918 the family moved to Cloud Bay, ON where Ellen spent her childhood growing up in a large homesteading family. This is where she developed her strong sense of family and the love of hard work and the outdoors. In 1933 she met and married Ed, the love of her life, and they too homesteaded in Cloud Bay, raising a family and logging was their business. When the timber ran out they moved to Fort William in 1946 where she enjoyed working at the Embassy Grill; earning her CNA diploma and working in the Quonset Huts at McKellar Hospital. In 1953 they moved to Sault-Ste-Marie, ON where for the next 35 she years she was a vital part of her neighbourhood family, where her door was once again always open. Ellen returned to the Lakehead in 1988, again becoming an active part of her community at Elizabeth Court. In Oct 2005 she joined Pinewood Court's family and loved every minute, telling everyone she knew they should move in! Ellen loved to travel, joke, share stories, dance, play cards, garden, chop wood and share time with those she loved. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Sheryl (Doug), John (Angie), Rick (missing), Cindy (Marty), and special granddaughter Lucy (Marek), great-grandchildren Lyra and Keltie, Justine and Nina, and Jonathon; brother Harold, sisters Nettie (Eddie), Thelma, sister-in-law Ann. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held 1:30-3:30pm, Monday, September 11th, 2006, at Pinewood Court in the Gathering Room. Friends and family are invited to bring a flower to the service. Interment will be at a later date in Cloud Bay Cemetery.
