Peacefully at home on February 18th, 2022, in her 89th year, Janet Chartrand departed her loving family into the waiting arms of angels to be reunited with her husband Leo, beloved son Phillip, and son-in-law Doug.

Devoted wife to the late Leo Chartrand for 62 years. Doting mother of Randy Chartrand (Donelda), Patty Lutes (Mark), Brenda Kelley (Brad), the late Phillip Chartrand, and Kevin Chartrand. A grandma extraordinaire, she will be deeply missed by her 7 grandchildren Heather (Steven), Shelley (Cole), Matthew, Phylicia (Dan), Olivia (Alec), Malcolm and Miranda (David). She will be forever honoured by her great grandchildren Isla and Ezra Marsh whom she adored. Daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Murray. Preceded in death by siblings Stan, Gordon, David, and Mary. Remembered fondly by her dear sister Mabel Eddy (Don) and sister-in-law Vera Murray. She will be always cherished by special friend Larry Moreau. She will be missed by many extended family members, friends, and neighbors whose lives she touched throughout her lifetime.

Janet was a kind and patient caregiver, spending many years of her life raising her children and grandchildren. She loved kids and babysat for many families with a special mention for the Robertson family whose children she babysat for 13 years. Janet was also an active volunteer who loved contributing and making a difference through her work with her church, the Moose Lodge, and the Royal Canadian Legion. She could always be relied upon to help with the annual Rydal Bank turkey dinner.

A heartfelt thank-you to the wonderful healthcare team that provided care and comfort. Dr. Schamp, Dr. Reich, Dr. Lam, the nurses and support staff of the Algoma District Cancer Program, and Bayshore Palliative care team with special mention for nurses Nina and Rochelle.

A small private service will be held on February 25th, 2022, at O’Sullivan Funeral Home. A public service will be held at Mount Zion Sands Cemetery at a later date followed by a Celebration of Life, with details to come. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rydal Bank Historical Society or Emmanuel United Church (payable by cheque). Visit www.osullivanfuneralhome.com to leave condolences for the family. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.

“Yes, they’ll all come to meet me. Arms reaching, smiling sweetly. It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home”
