CARNESApril 22, 1921 – October 10, 2010 – Peacefully passed away at the Extendicare Van Daele Nursing Home on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Following his wishes, Bill was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a future date with interment Greenwood Cemetery. Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of Isaac Brock Carnes and Bertha (Venning) and was raised in St. Thomas, Ontario. In 1946, he married Joy Lorraine (Armstrong) of Essex, Ontario. Bill “Security” served with the Elgin Regiment during WWII; after which he was ordained as a minister for the United Church of Canada. He served in various charges from Windsor to Toronto. In 1966, he retired from the United Church and took a job as a Probation Officer assigned to Sault Ste. Marie and area. While doing that he helped out with Goulais River United and Leeburn United churches. He was predeceased by his wife Joy (2003) and children Phillip (1991) and Susan (1957), brother Gordon, sister Florence (Tay) Weekes, Bessie Gilchrist and Violet Else. Survived by sons David (Loretta) of Sudbury, Ron (Mary Ann) of Sault Ste. Marie and Allan (Angela) of Edmonton. Grandpa to William (BJ), Ron Jr., Mike (Jennifer), Cassey Halverson, Scott, Chris (Lori), Greg, Mathia, Mercedes, Nelia and Alicitee. Great grandpa to Kristen, Derissa Vincentini, Claudia Reid, William, Ryan and Curtis. Also survived by his fiancé, Rita Thomsen and by many nieces and nephews of the Carnes and Armstrong clans. Special friend of Colleen Halverson, Jennifer Carnes and Pat Carnes. Member of the Elgin Regiment Veterans Association and the Royal Canadian Legion. Internment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:00 am, Saturday November 6th, 2010. Followed by a memorial service to be held at St. Andrews United Church at 11:00 am.
