Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital on Sunday, July 2, 2023, surrounded by her family, at the age of 77. Devoted and loving wife of the late Frank Calvelli for 47 years. Loving mother of Connie Rescigno (Francesco) and Nicholas Calvelli (Jenn). Nonna of Marco, Emily, Lucas and Danica. Predeceased by her loving parents, Steve and Mary Bulat (Kosovich). Dear sister of Dr. Robert Bulat (Sue) of Baltimore, Maryland, late Diane Marie Bulat and Katy Matakovic (late Drago) of St. John, Indiana. Cherished cousin of Milena Bulat (Sudbury) and George Bulat (Toronto) and extended family in Canada, United States, Australia, New Zealand and Croatia. Daughter-in-law of the late Nicola and the late Concetta Calvelli of Aprigliano, Italy). Dear sister-in-law of Virginia Muti (late Rocco), late Violetta Costanzo (late Antonio), late Elvira Curcio (late Angelo), and the late Anna Nardi. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen was a true force of nature, devoting herself to the people in her community and beyond. She was unforgettable for her kindness and passion towards others. She was a proud and active member with civic organizations in Sault Ste. Marie, including the Elettra Marconi Society (Board of Directors, Auditor and English Correspondence Secretary), Croatian Fraternal Union (Executive), Crime Stoppers (Board of Directors), Chapter 1009 Retirees (Secretary), Best for Kids (Board of Directors) and Croatian Housing/Hrvatski Selo (Vice President). Helen was also a sorority sister with Beta Sigma Phi.
Friends and family are invited to visit Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, July 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Service will be held in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to honour Helen to the following organizations: Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and District of Algoma Inc. or the Group Health Centre Trust Fund.
