His battle with cancer in recent years showed his strength and courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Despite knowing what the outcome of this rare and aggressive cancer was to become, he remained strong and a hero to his family and friends, who will continue to honor his life by living their lives to the fullest.

Charles met the love of his life Carolyn at a friend's wedding. A love story began from their first dance that evening and continued through an amazing 60 years together. His jolly personality was contagious to everyone he met. Charles began teaching in 1956 becoming principal in 1969 at D.T. Walkom, later M.J. Dacey, Prince of Wales and finally Parkland. Charles retired in 1991 then continued his involvement with Nipissing University College as a local area coordinator. He enjoyed his time at the cottage and working in volunteering capacities.
