It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, Dad and Papa. Mike passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 23rd at the F.J. Davey Home at the age of 83, with his daughter by his side.

Adored and devoted husband of Darlene for 58 years. Cherished father of Gregory (Marcie), and Alanna (Michael Nott). Much loved Papa of Sara and Tristan Boyer. Proud and devoted son of the late Ivan and the late Lucille Boyer. Deeply loved brother of the late John (late Elaine), Paul (Cheryle), Pierre (Sergine), the late Denis, and Marcelle Weaver (David). Mike lovingly embraced and cherished meeting and knowing his half-brother, the late Ubald Robitaille (Georgette) and his family. Adored son-in-law of the late Gregorie (Harry) and the late Vina Dubas. Treasured brother-in-law of the late Dolores Zalewski (late Edward) and the late Walter Dubas (Marietta). He was the much loved “Uncle Mike” of 16 nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews. He shared a very special relationship with his nephew Chris Zalewski, and his boys.

Mike was born November 3, 1939 in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. In 1955, he moved with his parents and siblings to Sault Ste. Marie. In 1960, he met Darlene. They married in 1964, and began their family with the birth of their son in 1966, and then their daughter in 1970. In 1966 he took a job in Algoma Steel Corporation where he worked for 33 years until his retirement from the Stores Department in 1999. In 2000, he became “Papa” with the birth of his granddaughter, and three years later, his grandson; his most precious gifts.

Mike was many things throughout his life; a son and sibling, a friend, a drummer, a steel worker, a runner, a gardener, a hunter, a fisherman and most of all a proud and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a very hard worker, never sitting down except in the evening to watch a good CSI episode while doing his crossword puzzles, and if, out of pure exhaustion, he didn’t nod off.

Mike was a pleasant man to those who knew him and he was always there for any of his family and friends. His smile and sense of humour lit up any dark room. He was a very strong willed man with an incredible will to live, which was evident with his fight for the past 9 years to stay with us, through heart complications and a serious staph infection. He just never gave up. But in the end, heart disease and dementia took him from us. The day before he died, his ER doctor said “He’s a tough guy”... He sure was.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-25422) on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 between 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Daddy.. we’re so proud of you. It’s been a long 9 years, but we wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else but by your side. We’ll miss you forever.
It’s okay.. rest peacefully now…and until we meet again.
