January 31, 1954 – October 17, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Alex Bortoluzzi at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario after a prolonged illness. A proud man, Alex faced his health issues with dignity and endured much to remain with us for as long as possible. He was predeceased by his parents Antonio (Tony) and Erminia Bortoluzzi. He is survived by his wife Eva, his daughter Sofia, his sister Anne Marie Baker (Mark) and nephew and nieces, Robert, Kathleen, and Margaret.

Alex was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, ON and obtained his undergraduate degree at Carleton University in Ottawa. He completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at McMaster University and moved to Toronto where he worked at Scotiabank Head Office.

Over the years, Alex developed a passion for the arts and grew to become an active member of the theatre, appearing in numerous Toronto community theatre productions. Committed to his craft, he joined choirs and took vocal lessons to sharpen his artistic talents. He forged close relationships with his fellow cast members and singing groups.

Alex was a caring and loving son to his parents and was fiercely loyal to his entire family.  Upon retirement, he was generous with his time to several organizations including offering Italian translation services as a way honouring his heritage.  He also enjoyed frequent outings on the two motorcycles he owned.

Alex will be greatly missed by his immediate family. He will be fondly remembered by his relatives across Ontario, Italy and Spain as well as his former wife, Florence.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided.

A celebration of life was held in Toronto with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
