Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on April 20, 2024, in his 80th year.

He will be fondly remembered by the mother of his boys Melda Black (nee Beaven). Father to the late Douglas John Black, Howard William Black (Kerry) and Dawn-Lynn Black (favourite son in law Bob). Grandpa to Howard, Samantha, Mikayla, Aiyana and Connor and great grandpa to Jackson and Lily.

Son of the late Elizabeth and Harry Black and his biological mother Evelyn. Brother to 12. Thank you to his loving sister, Louise, for being here for Ernie, Howard, and Dawn-Lynn during this final happy journey. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dad often shared his memories of growing up in Franz. He would often speak fondly and tell stories about his mom, who is missed dearly. Dad was a letter carrier for many years here in Sault Ste. Marie and later transferred to Waterloo and a few years later would retire. He would later become an Injection Molder.

Dad was a die-hard hockey player and finally with true reluctance he had to hang up his skates at the age of 76. Dad had a talent of playing music and singing until he could no longer. In his younger days, you could catch him playing in the band the Rawhide’s with his good chum Albert Belleau. They played at the bars around town, but the one where they played the most was the old Algoma on Queen Street. Dad had a sharp mind and was dedicated to living his life through Christianity.

In following our dad’s wishes, there will be no service and a private family gathering will take place at a later date.

P.S. – Dad, Howard will be sure to raise that little guy right and I will be sure to take care of that little soldier for you as you asked.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pearce, Dr. Rassouli, and especially Dr. Booth. To our awesome nurses Cathy and Alison, PSW’s Amelia, Amanda, Amy, and Ashley. Thank you from the bottom of Howard’s and I’s heart.

Memorial donations in memory of Ernie may be made to Tracy’s Dream (payable by cheque).
