BIGUZS, Ausma

Posted

With heavy hearts the family of Ausma Biguzs announces her passing at the F.J. Davey Home on Monday, June 14, 2010. Ausma was loved and respected by many for her kind and generous spirit. She provided endless love, support and strength to her family and her friends. Born August 5, 1923 in Gulbene, Latvia, Ausma arrived in Canada in 1950 in the aftermath of WWII. She began 40 years of dedicated nursing service in 1956 at the Sault General Hospital, working in obstetrics, emergency and the orthopaedic clinics. She truly loved helping people. “Ausie” greatly enjoyed the interaction of working with others and developed many dear and enduring friendships. Ausie was the ultimate multi-tasker, who in addition to working at the hospital, maintaining her home and raising her family, found time to be an avid gardener, a talented craftsperson in loom weaving and needlepoint, a gifted seamstress, a prolific producer of amazing culinary delights, and a valued friend and neighbour. Devoted wife of the late (1981) Leonards. She will be deeply missed by her cherished daughters and best friends, Ruth Morrison (Sault Ste. Marie), and Anita Biguzs (Ottawa), loving sons-in-law Don Morrison and Charles Nixon, treasured and very special friend Gayle Smith, caring nieces Mara Miezitis(Toronto) and Margita Birzins and family (Pickering), extended family in Ontario and U.S.A., and friends in Sault Ste. Marie and Latvia. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nicholas Smith for his kindness and care, to all of Ausie’s thoughtful friends who called and visited, and to all her supportive caregivers at Kotitalo (OFRA), the Sault Area Hospital and the F.J. Davey Home. To celebrate Ausie’s life, friends are invited to the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 7 ~ 9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1 pm on Thursday, June 17, 2010. Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Since Ausma spent close to half her life in nursing service, memorial contributions may be made to the New SAH Fund in lieu of flowers.
