Peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Sault Area Hospital at the age of 77.  Beloved husband of Louise (nee Kit) for 52 years.  Loving father of Paul Bichler and Heidi Bichler (Brian Yost).  Predeceased by his parents Josef and Agathe Bichler, his sisters Agathe Bichler and Gertraud Bichler, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Josephine and Nicholas Kit.  Dear brother of Josefine Heinz (Karl).  Predeceased by brother and sister-in-law Danny Kit (late Emily).  He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews the late Gerlinde Miller (Paul), Susie Parker (Shawn), Karl Heinz (Mary Jane) and Jonathan Kit (Donna).  Lovingly remembered by great nieces and nephews Trudi Miller (Rance Remme), Jason Heinz (Julie), Jennifer Heinz, Shawn Parker (Meghan), Jim Parker (Rachel), Nicholas Kit and Nathan Kit and great-great niece and nephews Damien Hennigar, Wyatt Hennigar, Karley Heinz and Maxwell and Jackson Parker.  Special host parent of Dr. Kathleen Hoehn (Philipp Hufschmid).  Joe will also be remembered by many cousins and friends in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Canada.  Josef was born in Kufstein Tirol, Austria and came to Toronto Canada in 1957 at the age of 16 with his family.  Joe was a hardworker from an early age and held a variety of jobs.  He worked briefly at the McIntyre Mine in Schumacher, Ontario before purchasing his first transport vehicle.  His passion for trucking grew over the years, and in 1978 brought him and his family to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where he became the owner of Steel City Truck Lines with Wayne Brunsch.  Joe retired from the trucking industry in 1999.  In his retirement Joe became a landlord.  Over the years Joe volunteered for his church and community.  Joe was a kind, generous and giving man.  He also had a special place in his heart for those in need.  One of Joe’s greatest joys was living life to the fullest with family and friends.  Friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522) from 3 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, February 10, 2019.  Funeral Mass at Precious Blood Cathedral (778 Queen St. East) on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 10 am.  Father Emmanuel Zinsu officiating.  Interment to follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to ARCH www.archhospice.ca/donate, Alzheimer Society www.alzheimer.ca/algoma , Precious Blood Cathedral – The Journey or a charity of your choice.  The Bichler family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the numerous Healthcare Professionals who provided Joe with excellent care over several years.  Special thanks to Dr. S. J. Fratesi and staff, Dr. M. Mathew, Dr. L Castellani, Dr. D. Berry, Dr. D. Latter at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Dr. C. Taylor, Dr. K. Booth, Dr. A. Schamp and the Palliative Care team at SAH, Bayshore Healthcare Nursing staff – especially Cindy and the SAH nursing team for years of loving care and support.
