BEAUMONT, Richard (Dick) Harpin

Posted

Passed away peacefully at his home at Collegiate Heights on Sunday, May 28, 2012.  Predeceased by his dear wife Agnes Beaumont (2005).  Respected and loved father of Mary Louise McGovern and David Lawrence Beaumont (Ruth).  Proud grandfather of his grandsons Richard McGovern (Tamara), Michael McGovern, Andrew Beaumont (Ericka), Scott Beaumont (Natalia) and Matthew Beaumont.  Brother of the late Lawrence Beaumont (1945) and special cousin to Vera Lonnergon.  Born in Glen Williams, Ontario on September 22, 1918, Dick served in the Canadian Airforce during WWII.  He continued his studies postwar, to complete his Chartered Accountancy Designation, first working for Thorne Riddell in Toronto and then in Sault Ste. Marie in 1952.  In 1958, Dick, along with other investors, purchased Lyons Fuel Hardware and Supplies.  Dick operated both Lyons Hardware and Lyons ReadyMix until the time of his retirement in 1992.  Always community minded,  Dick was active on many local, provincial and Canadian boards, including the United Way, Kiwanis, St. Andrew’s United Church, The Conservative Party, both the Sault Ste. Marie Construction Association and Homebuilders Association, The Davey Home and the SSM Golf Club.  Dick enjoyed travelling, golfing, downhill skiing, time at the cottage with family at Batchawana Bay, working at his computer, playing bridge and keeping fit at the YMCA.  A gentleman to the end, Dick will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial contributions to the United Way, St. Andrew’s United Church and the SAH would be appreciated by the family.  Special thanks to the staff at the Sault Area Hospital, Red Cross, Premier Services, We Care and especially Collegiate Heights, for the kindness and care shown towards dad during these last few months. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 6 – 9 pm. Funeral service at St. Andrew’s United Church on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 am. Rev.
